THE SWEETEST NAME
‘THE MASTER’ CLASSICS
GEORGE BEVERLY SHEA
Bass Baritone Soloist for the Billy Graham Meetings and featured Radio Artist
(with Douglas Fisher, Organist)

Predictably, the first 78 rpm sessions of ‘America’s Beloved Gospel Singer’ in the late 1940s were clearly reflective of his personal taste. But George Beverly Shea ensured that the songs were of sufficient quality to outlive the past generation that produced them.
The dictionary describes a classic as ‘a work of lasting quality’. Among the ranks of inspirational music are some outstanding works and performances that justly deserve more than a dust-gathering place on the archive shelves of the great recording companies. Indeed, scriptural history documents that Man’s longest-lasting songs are God-directed.
In 2006, it is surely hard to believe that the first of Mr. Shea’s many, big-selling 78 rpm records were minted way back in the ‘Cold War’ days of the late Forties.
History’s irrepressible advances will condemn the vast majority of mankind’s art and industry to be lost forever in the sands of subsequent generations. But Bev’s recording legacy had a timeless quality from the beginning as these archives illustrate.
Paul Davis (Executive Producer)
